I know this isn't one of his newer books, so maybe it's not fair to say the style is wearing thin. But, the general theme of an individual lost and confused and travelling between mystical and "normal" worlds is getting a bit one dimensional. The postwar years have brought him a fine marriage, two daughters, and an enviable career as the proprietor of two jazz clubs.
