Palter|This is a wonderful dystopian novel of a near future NYC and US [it was written in the mid 90's but with a few tech changes like cell phones could be next year or five years from now]. The POV is a downwardly mobile 12 year old girl who falls from privilege to street with near to zero adult guidance [her parents are in|From Publishers Weekly|A sort of prequel to his previous novels (Ambient, Elvissey, etc.), Womack's latest may be his best, a dark and riveting look at where our disintegrating, crime-ridden society may be headed. The only difference between Womack's near-future
